Why I Give: An Interview with Scott Winters of CNA Stores

At Lucy’s Love Bus, we are proud to partner with CNA Stores, whose community has donated a substantial amount to local organizations since 2019, including over $23,000 to Lucy’s Love Bus through our partnership. Their commitment to service is evident not only in their financial contributions but also in the 2,815.5 community service hours their employees have logged since 2019. Each year, they send a dedicated team of volunteers to our Butterfly Benefit, helping to ensure the success of our vital annual fundraiser. CNA Stores’ dedication to giving back highlights the powerful role businesses can play in supporting their communities, and we are deeply grateful for their support in making a difference for children and families facing cancer. We sat down with Scott Winters, Director of Business Development at CNA Stores, to discuss what drives their commitment to giving back and how it has shaped their connection to the community.

Q. What inspired your company to start supporting Lucy's Love Bus?
A. Honestly, you did. We’ve been aware of Lucy’s Love Bus for a long time, and it's clear how much of a staple you are in our community. Supporting you was a no-brainer for us. Your work resonates with our values, and we wanted to be a part of that.

Q. In what ways do you hope your contributions are making a difference in the lives of children and families facing cancer?
A. We trust Lucy’s Love Bus to allocate the funds where they're needed most. You know the community's needs better than anyone, and we don’t want to limit your ability to help. And we love how we’ve gotten to know the children and families that we’re helping through your Butterfly Buddy stories. These stories beautifully showcase the tangible impact of our collective efforts and help to foster trust and inspire others by showing that every contribution truly makes a difference.

Q. How do you encourage your customers to join in supporting this cause?
A. We make it a point to educate our customers about Lucy’s Love Bus. It’s not just about asking for donations; it's about explaining the mission and showing them the positive impact their contributions can have. We want our customers to feel as connected to the cause as we do, and understanding the organization is a big part of that.

Q. Why is it important for your company to give back to the community, especially to organizations like Lucy's Love Bus?
A. Giving back is what companies should do when they're part of a community. We're building CNA Stores to last, and contributing to the well-being of our community is integral to that. Supporting organizations like Lucy’s Love Bus helps strengthen the community we’re all a part of, and that’s vital for long-term success.

Q. What has been the most rewarding aspect of partnering with local nonprofits like Lucy's Love Bus?
A. The most rewarding part is knowing that we're playing a role, even a small one, in helping your organization carry out its important work. The gratitude we've received from Lucy’s Love Bus is humbling, and it strengthens our commitment to this partnership. We also ensure our customers know that their donations make this possible, and we give back to our employees too, in the form of bonuses, which keeps the conversation about these organizations alive year-round.

CNA Stores’ partnership with Lucy’s Love Bus exemplifies how businesses can create meaningful change by supporting local causes. Their ongoing contributions and volunteer efforts not only uplift those in need but also foster a stronger, more connected community.
